Robert W. Bowers Sr., born in 1946, in Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on January 13, 2025, at Christiana Care Hospital at age 78. He was the beloved son of the late Marguerite Bowers and the late Ronald E. Bowers Sr.
A proud John Dickinson High School graduate, Class of 1964, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served with honor aboard the USS Constellation CVA-64. After his military service, Robert worked as a truck driver for Yellow Freight and was a dedicated member of Teamsters Local 326. He was known for his reliability, work ethic, and professional commitment.
Beyond his career, Robert found joy in giving back to his community. He volunteered as an umpire for Canal Little League, where he fostered a love of the game in young athletes, and served as a board member for Capital Trail Football, supporting local youth sports programs.
Robert was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Betty B. Bowers, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Together, they raised two sons, Robert W. Bowers Jr. and Bryan C. Bowers, and were blessed with three granddaughters, Brittany, Brenna, and Meghan. His family was the center of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
Known for his integrity, kindness, and deep love for his family and community, Robert leaves a lasting legacy of service, generosity, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald E. Bowers Jr. He is survived by his wife, children, granddaughters, brother Tom, sister Linda, and many extended family members and friends.
Robert’s life will be celebrated on January 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund in his honor.
Robert’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and the many lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
