Robert Witzman Obituary

Robert E. Witzman, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at his home in Bear, Delaware.

Bob graduated from Elmont Memorial High School in 1963 and worked as a carpenter’s apprentice, building custom homes on Long Island with his father and brothers. He went on to serve in the United States Army from 1965-1968 and was with the 504 Battalion while service in Vietnam as a Military Police Officer. After his honorable discharge, he married and had a daughter. Bob worked as a union painter for Local Union No. 1331 until his retirement. He then went on to serve as a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Elsmere.

He enjoyed his time watching television, shopping on QVC, gardening, and maintaining his home. He made dear friends along the way. Bob was thought of by many as a generous, fun loving, and caring man who was loved by many.

He was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He will be remembered fondly by the children that knew him as their “special grandpa,” Liah, Marley, Oliver, Casey, and Keegan and by his stepson who came to love him as a father.

A graveside service will be held at the chapel at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm at 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate .
