Sara “Sally” K. Jordan, age 80, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Sally was born and raised in Glasgow where she attended school in a one-room schoolhouse and later was the organist for several years at the Glasgow Methodist Church. She was pre-deceased by her parents, John W. and Mary D. Jordan as well as her infant daughter.
Sally graduated from Newark High School in 1960 and from the University of Delaware in 1964. She started her career as a teacher of French at Elkton Senior High School and ended her career as an administrative assistant for the State of Delaware.
Sally was very interested in American history and was a member of the Civil War Round Table. She also collected books on local history and researched and recorded the family genealogy. She was an avid Phillies fan and rarely missed a game on tv.
Sally is survived by her two sons: James Jordan Mulvena (Maureen) and John Mark Mulvena (Kim); four granddaughters: Haylee, Ashlee, Savannah, and Lilianna; her sister: Cynthia Jordan-Barber (George); and her devoted niece: Abby Barber. She also leaves behind many cousins and friends and her two cats, Speedy and Willie.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from 10-11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at Beeson Funeral Home. Burial will be at New St. Paul’s Cemetery in Delaware City.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Sally’s name to Tri-State Bird Rescue at https://tristatebird.org/donate/ or Brandywine Valley SPCA at https://bvspca.org/donate/ as Sally was a lover of animals, especially birds and cats. Donations can also be made to Head of Christiana Presbyterian Church.
