Thomas P. Betley

Thomas Patrick Betley, age 74, of Middletown, Delaware, passed away peacefully 4-20-26 at 4:20pm. A man of immense kindness and unwavering integrity, Tom leaves behind a legacy of hard work and deep devotion to his family.

Tom grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, in a bustling household alongside his parents and nine siblings. As a child, Tom attended St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Sanford School and studied agriculture at the University of Delaware. As a young adult, Tom moved to Timonium, Maryland where he met his lifelong best friend and wife, Io Mears. Tom and Io later moved to Baltimore, Maryland where they built their family with their two sons, Ryan and Sam. A lifelong entrepreneur with a sharp mind for business, Tom founded several career ventures often leading with the desire to build success for, and with, his family and friends. Tom always had a role for family in every venture, most notably Astec Inc. Alongside his wife, and at times with his two sons, his brother Joe, sister Kathy, niece Jessie, and nephew Lip, Tom operated Astec for over 35 years, building a reputation for professionalism and excellence within the local industry.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Io Betley; their two sons, Ryan and Sam; and a large, loving extended family that includes many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces/nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Betley; his sister, Joan; and his brothers, Jim, Jack, Fran, and Joe.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tom’s life on May 9 at 11:00 am at Conquest Beach Preserve, located at 500 Conquest Beach Rd, Centreville, MD.
