Virgil Connell Obituary

Virgil Allen Connell (age 76) passed away peacefully at his home on August 5, 2021 with his wife, Mary by his side.Allen was born in 1945.

He met Mary in the same building where they were both born in West Grove, PA. After growing up in the Corner Ketch area, he served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a mechanic for the Christina school district for 25 years, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood working. In his recent years he loved working on his property with his tractor.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and true friend to everyone who knew him.

Allen is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Mary (Halsey) to whom he was married for 53 years. Together they raised three children, son Doug Connell and husband John, daughter Donna Steward and husband John, son Denny Connell and wife Kelly, 8 grandchildren: Brandon & Robert Steward, Dalton & Kaylinn Connell, Angie & JJ Souder and Vinnie & Kristian Cassello. Allen is also survived by his brother Ronald, Gary, Terry and sister Linda. He was predeceased by his parents Carl and Catherine and brothers: Floyd, Jerry, Sandy and Sonny.  Doug, Donna, Denny and their spouses would like to show special recognition to their mom who spent many years taking round the clock special care of her husband whom she adored and loved very much. Her diligent care and effort gave them many more years to have him in their lives.  

The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, Compassionate Care Hospice, and Pastor Mark. 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Hwy, Newark, DE 19702 where visitation will begin at 10:00 am.  A Committal Service will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701 at 1:00 pm.

All attending will be required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing to maintain compliance with State COVID-19 Regulations.  Admittance will be regulated.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations made to Habitat for Humanity, 1920 Hutton St., Wilmington, DE 19802.
